Lörrach-Basel: Markets, Festivals, and all that jazz ;)

So far, I am really loving Lörrach. I think this is the perfect size city for me to live in, and it's next to Basel (which I think is a pretty huge city --minus all the huge skyscrapers). And by the way, I LOVE Basel. It's getting really hard to put my favorite cities in order now. I think Düsseldorf and Frankfurt are still at the top for large cities, but Basel might have actually passed Frankfurt (which probably makes sense) xD

I also wanted to mention that my story was published in the newspaper! I know pretty much everyone knows about it now, but I am very happy to be in the papers once again for overcoming my brutal head injury, surviving one very life-changing year abroad in 2010, getting my full-scholarship at the college in Michigan, and now moving over to start my life in Europe. I've done a lot in my life so far, and I'm really thankful for everyone who has supported me. :)

There is always something going on in Lörrach; that is one thing I really love about this place. The following are the pictures I took at the Lörrach Herbstfest (fall festival)

Lächeln - es ist das zweit Beste das Du mit
                                         Deinen Lippen tun kannst
(Smile - it is the second best thing
you can do with your lips)

And now BASEL! :)

Adding this on to my list of Musicals/ Theater Performances I want to see. Chicago is on my list, and now the Rocky Horror Show (the movie was hilarious) :D

Basel Herbstmesse #1: These festivals are split into a few sections throughout the city. It's really neat :)

This red building is actually the Rathaus (city hall). It surprised me because it was so beautiful :)

Basel Herbstmesse #2 ;)

We found Mesut! So Maila (my Italian friend) and I were supposed to meet Mesut (our Turkish friend) at the Basel train station. The only thing that slipped both of our minds is that there are 2 Basel train stations...And once you get into Switzerland, the German SIM cards in the cellphones can't pick up a signal -i.e. No internet/phone signal. So we arrived at 2 different train stations, and we thought we lost each other...but SOMEHOW we ended up meeting in the middle at the festival (which is weird because Basel is HUGE and there are a TON of people --not to mention over 6 festivals in different locations) :P

Basel Herbstmesse #2: It cost like 8 Euros just to ride the ferris wheel around a few times...crazy expensive for a ferris wheel, but the view was great :)

Basel Herbstmesse #3: Texas-food booth. I didn't try it because I forgot to take my Swiss Franks with me, but I seriously might try it next time. I'm curious (not that I've ever been to Texas)  xD

First Few Weeks in Loerrach ;)

Sorry this has taken me SO long to update! And I apologize for the absence of photos. I will try to be better at taking pictures ;-)

The first few weeks have been SO crazy! It's weird living on my own (and sometimes it can get rather boring) ^^ However, I have found 2 weekly activities (an acting club and badminton) and I have plenty of homework and studying to keep me busy. I also met some amazing people in the past weeks ;) I am very happy to be here in Germany, and I'm so excited to get my first break and maybe travel somewhere new. (I'm not sure if that sounds bad because I literally just started classes last week...but yeah.)

Classes are doing well. I have 9 classes and LOTS of work! But it's nice to be able to study without having to work 3 times a week too.

I took some pictures of Loerrach. I'll take some more when the weather is nice and I have some down-time.

There wonderful people are the Erasmus exchange students. They are from Poland (2), Spain (2), Turkey (1), and Italy (1) ;)

These are pictures from a park near my place. It's a nice place to run, walk, bicycle, or picnic.

MORE PICTURES TO COME :)
