Short-Trip to Amsterdam

Had a REALLY amazing 3 days in Amsterdam. It was difficult to leave. The architecture and canals are beautiful, and the people are also very friendly. Amsterdam is so much more than what the majority people think it's known for, like the ability to smoke pot and the red-light district. Of course, there are plenty of places to smoke a joint, but the city is quite huge and very artistic/ cultural. There is something for everyone to enjoy. I would recommend visiting to anyone.

So here are a few pictures. I didn't get to see everything on our list of things to do, since the city is quite spread out and the weather wasn't the greatest, but I saw a lot. I think I'll visit  again for sure. :-)

I took a lot of pictures. They're mostly just random pictures. I saw spent a lot of time walking around in the different parts of the city.

There were so many different restaurants down-town, making it near impossible to decide what to eat for dinner. They have cuisines from all over the world: Italian, French, Cuban, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, American, Dutch...you name it.

In the end, I settled for a Dutch restaurant called Kop van Jut Eetcafe. I highly recommend it. I had their fish of the day: fresh salmon.

I swear I saw this canal in a picture once. It was a different bike, but I think it was the same location...However, there are hundreds of meters of canals and lots of bridges (1,500 to be exact).

This is the biggest flower market in Amsterdam (Bloemenmarkt). They have flowers and plants of every type :-)

You can't go to Amsterdam without trying their Haringhandel fish sandwich. There are small vendors throughout the city. It's a really simple and inexpensive sandwich (hot dog bun, haring fish, onions, pickles) and entirely delicious.

This is the town hall (also known as the Royal Palace of Amsterdam). It was built as a town hall in the 17th century, but later became the Royal Palace when Napoleon invaded in 1806. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Palace_of_Amsterdam

Since it was pouring rain, I decided to have a warm drink in this interesting cafe (Ivy & Bros). This is another place I'd recommend. They had really nice waiters and the atmosphere was relaxed.

Basilica of St. Nicholas catholic church, in the Old Centre district.
Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go inside, but it's a beautiful building from the outside.

Gate in-front of Rijksmuseum

I did see the red-light district. There are red signs for strip-clubs, bars, and sex-shops everywhere, and there are windows with women openly advertising sex. It was very different (and quite shocking) to see, but that's part of Amsterdam.

Iamsterdam sign in-front of Rijksmuseum. We didn't actually go into this State Art museum, but it was nice to see from the outside.

Craft-brewery: Brouwerij 't IJ
It's not directly in the city, we had to take a bus to get there, but I would also highly recommend coming here. They make excellent beer, and their cheese + sausage platter was a great addition. It also has one of the biggest windmills in the city.

There are many nice vintage shops in Amsterdam! They have SO many clothes from the 70's/ 80's xD
The vintage chain-store is called Episode.

Vondelpark, the largest park in Amsterdam. The hotel wasn't too far from here. It's a really beautiful, clean park with lots of nature :)
